New Zealand's batsmen celebrate their historic triple 150+ achievement against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo

In a remarkable display of batting prowess, three New Zealand cricketers etched their names in the record books by scoring 150-plus runs each on day two of the second Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. This extraordinary performance on August 8 equals a world record that has stood untouched for nearly four decades.

Historic Triple Achievement

Devon Conway broke his two-year drought with a masterful 153 runs off 245 balls, marking a significant return to form for the opener who had been struggling in recent Test matches.

The spotlight, however, belonged to the extraordinary partnership between Henry Nicholls and Rachin Ravindra, who constructed an unbeaten 256-run stand. This partnership now stands as the third-highest fourth-wicket partnership in New Zealand's cricket history.

Record-Breaking Performance

By stumps, Nicholls had reached 150 while Ravindra remained unbeaten on 165, propelling New Zealand to a commanding 601-3. This remarkable achievement matches a Test record for most 150-plus scores in a single innings, previously accomplished only twice in cricket history.

The Black Caps' dominance follows their impressive performance in the first Test, establishing a formidable 476-run lead after dismissing Zimbabwe for 125 in their first innings.

Historical Context

This feat equals the record set by India in 1986 when Sunil Gavaskar, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Kapil Dev all crossed the 150-run mark against Sri Lanka. The only other instance occurred in 1938 during an Ashes Test at The Oval, featuring England's legendary batsmen Len Hutton, Maurice Leyland, and Joe Hardstaff.

Looking Ahead

New Zealand now stands poised to potentially break their national record for largest first-innings lead, currently set at 481 runs against Bangladesh in 2019. The team is also within striking distance of entering the all-time top three for largest first-innings leads in Test cricket history.
